Design Ideas For a Computer Science Student Room

When I teach computer science, I always tell my students that their first programming assignment is to complete a simple project. The project doesn’t have to be very complex; it can be something as simple as writing a program to check an email or surfing the Internet. Why? Because students know that their primary objectives are going to be easy and that they will complete the assignment regardless of how difficult the task is. And it’s important to establish the first phase of the assignment in advance.

If you’re teaching a class of students who already enjoy programming, you might think of asking each student to create a small program that demonstrates their understanding of the computer science topics you cover. If you’ve only got one student with minimal experience with computer science, this probably isn’t a good approach. Instead, ask the group to work on projects that demonstrate a basic level of knowledge. And while on the topic of programming, it is also important for the student to be aware of the various programming languages.

Once the initial project is complete, the student should go through the assignment listing again. Review the entire list again to make sure they understand everything. Repeat the steps above, but this time, ask the group to write a small program. This is a much more advanced assignment and it will require some deeper and broader cognitive skills. However, it is also a great opportunity for students to get real experience using the major computer science concepts.

Most of us come into the computer science majors with no experience writing a short, focused piece of code. This doesn’t have to be a big project. A few lines of code explaining a topic such as the London Underground maps is just what is needed for first year students. And a couple of lines describing the London Eye are generally enough for upper grade courses in business. It really doesn’t matter what the project is, as long as the student has some kind of example of a finished project on hand.

For students who already know a bit about computer science concepts, there are several things they can do to enhance their assignment. One of the easiest ways to approach a problem is to use problem solving methods. There are countless websites that provide tips and tricks for problem solving. There are even entire books devoted entirely to the subject!

One simple but creative way to enhance a problem solving exercise is to turn it into a scavenger hunt. The concept is easy: each person in the class is given a list of three items, and they are given a limited amount of time to find them. They home could run around town, or search for the items in a specific location. Depending on the teacher, there are many other options as well.

Another way to use scavenger hunts to enhance a computer science student room is to have contests. If each person in the class has an equal amount of time, the students can divide themselves into teams. The first person to complete their given task wins a prize. This is a great activity because it forces the participants to work together. It also gives the students an opportunity to explore how collaborating works, and it provides them with the experience of working as a team.

Computer science projects don’t have to be boring and tedious. In fact, they can be fun and innovative! A computer science student room can be designed around any theme and can even introduce a little creativity into the process. By utilizing these ideas, the student will learn valuable computer science skills while enjoying his time at school.
